Vanilla

Vanilla medical is all about bandages and saline.

Vanilla Process

  • First stop the the bleed with bandages applied directly to the wounded region
  • Apply saline if they have lost more than a mild amount of blood
  • DO NOT apply morphine to a patient who is still down
  • Repair wounds with medikit
  • Speak out loud as you work the situation, the patient can hear you

Equipment

Bandage
Stops bleeding. Apply directly to wound
Tourniquet
Stops circulation to bleeding site
Medical Kit (medkit)
Repair injuries directly, partial in the field, complete with a hospital or ambulance
Can restock medical equipment and medication

Medication

Saline
Treat blood loss and provides Blood Pressure stabilization
Morphine
DO NOT GIVE TO AN UNCONCIOUS PATIENT
Pain management only
Side effect reduces HR and BP
Effective in 1 minute

Hospitals and Ambulances

Hospital structures and mobile ambulances accelerate the patient's healing process within the vehicle or the hospital tent. Ambulances also spawn with medical items and can be utilized anywhere on the island. Hospitals, on the other hand, are static and generally tied to a base. Occasionally, you may encounter a player role-playing as an unarmed medic with an ambulance assisting anyone in need.

The medkit can heal a wound completely when in range of a Hospital or Ambulance.

ACE Medical

ACE Medical adds some more sophistication to the Medical process:

  • Additional vitals
    • Heart Rate (HR)
    • Blood pressure (BP)
    • Blood loss (Hemorrhage class 1 through 5)
    • Sp02 (Blood Oxygen level)
  • CPR
  • More medications
  • Repositioning the body

Vitals

HR
Heart Rate
BP
Blood Pressure
Blood loss
Measured in "Hemorrhage" and is treated with saline.
Sp02
Blood Oxygen level, in percentage
Less than 90% is and the patient will require supplemental oxygen
Currently this is with the King LT or Recovery Position

Vital ranges for circulation:

State HR BP
Cardiac Arrest > 220 > 284/189
Stable 40 - 220 69/46 - 284/189
Unstable < 40 < 69/46
Critical < 30 < 51/34
Cardiac Arrest < 20 < 51/34

Hemorrhage classes:

  • Normal
  • Class I hemorrhage (lost < 30%)
  • Class II hemorrhage (lost 30%)
  • Class III hemorrhage (lost 60%)
  • Class IV hemorrhage (lost 80%)
  • Fatal (lost 100%)

Equipment

Bandage
Stops bleeding. Apply directly to wound
Tourniquet
Stops circulation to bleeding site
Medical Kit
Repair injuries directly
Can restock medical equipment and medication
King LT
Opens up airway, allowing oxygen in
Chest Seal
Seals chest wound
Allows pressure to leave the chest cavity
Treats pneumothorax
Pneumothorax is a lung puncture which allows air into the chest cavity
If applied rapidly to a chest wound can prevent a tension pneumothorax
NCD Kit
Needle Chest Decompression kit
Treats tension pneumothorax
Tension pneumothorax is when the pressure in the chest cavity gets too high and starts interfering with organs

Medication

Saline
Treat blood loss and provides Blood Pressure stabilization
Ammonium Carbonate
aka "Smelling Salts" or "Salts"
Wakes up a stabilized patient if they have a Hemorrhage of Class 1 or less
Effective in 2 to 3 seconds

DO NOT give any of the following more than twice in 15 minutes.

Morphine
DO NOT GIVE TO AN UNCONCIOUS PATIENT
Pain management only
Side effect reduces HR and BP
Effective in 1 minute
Epinephrine
Treats Cardiac Arrest
Side effect raises HR and BP
Effective in 30 seconds
Metoprolol
Lowers HR and BP
Effective in 30 seconds
Phenylephrine
Raise BP, slows bleeding
Effective in 30 seconds
Naloxone/Narcan
Treat overdose to reduce effects
Effective in 1 minute and 30 seconds

Tips

Start with Phenylephrine

Dr. Harry V. from Task Force Broadsword recommends starting with Phenylephrine for serious bleeds.

For what it's worth on patients with 2 or more bleeds I find that pushing Phen before bandaging saves a lot of lives... I don't have hard data but it seems to make each hemorrhage act as at least one grade lower.

So in almost all cases it's probably best to just push phen before starting work... it takes almost no time for the animation to fire and has only one negative side effect that doesn't matter if they die before you finish bandaging everything.
